Both por and para in Spanish mean "for", but they are not interchangeable. Spanish speakers use one or the other depending on the context.

Por generally refers to:
- a cause or reason (e.g., lo hice por ti = I did it because of you)
- an exchange or trade (e.g., pagué cien euros por el libro = I paid 100 euros for the book)
- the duration of time (e.g., por dos años = for two years)
- movement through a place (e.g., pasa por el parque = go through the park)

Para generally refers to:
